saatchi online showdown competition 'colour'

                                                                            'geoscape'. 50''x40''  Mixed Media.

Due to still settling in from the house move and needing to read and research for my course, it's been awhile since I've painted. The online competition was just the kick I needed to create something new. The closing date was last week and there have been almost 6,500 entries! During the previous week there had been a sale at The Works and I topped up with some new larger canvasses and gouache paints.

I also came across some experimental work I'd done awhile ago on brown paper. I decided to utilize this by sticking it onto a canvas, which created interesting crinkles which I decided to paint into with  gold paint (a bit bright so sanded it back) and added a contrasting red gouache and white paint. A dark yellow gave the painting a base line. I was interested in how I could an illusion of layers and felt that this has all worked together to give a sense of a layered abstract landscape.
