Intentiality

start of image 1
nothings perfect

Is intentionality a word?
am adding to this blog as on rereading  as didn't make too much sense... even to me. Frustration in using technology abounded today! Must remember to save work as i go along .... only saved half this blog, so needing to rewrite/add to it.... also learning to save/upload photos from phone to laptop ..... working between platforms etc. all a learning curve which takes time!
Have been thinking about patterns/ maths/ geometry/proportion/beauty etc. (need to write about this in another blog) .... or looking for an archetypical answer to influence my making. .... hence geometric tree of life influence on new work below. (have been seeing 'artistic'kaleidoscope imagery everywhere)
Working small and exact makes every line/ paint stroke need to become very intentional; no room for error. Not sure if I like where this is going compositional or colour wise, but feel I'm learning a lot from it, including remembering to breathe rather than holding breath when painting straight lines!
...... Initially enjoyed  the drawing and painting of circular design, especially positioning of colours, but I don't like finished image....it's tight and tedious; named it, 'nothings perfect 1' ..... tried running white ink over top to subdue it, but it didn't help. i  used rotring colours which I've had for ages ... i like their vibrancy and transparency, but not in this piece.

What can I say about image 2, except that at this point it's not going anywhere ... so just left it .... frustrated but glad to have got paints out..... was hoping to have found perfect formula for 10 week exploratory making project. lol.

I think part of my frustration stems from my confusion/indecision over the role of technology in the process of making artworks. Sometimes a certain process can be done much easier and quicker using an app. and many artists, including older ones, are using such technologies (William Tillyer, David Hockney, Gerhard Richter etc....) however as Marshall McCluhan says (paraphrased) the media is the message...so i need to work out my relationship to this. I am enjoying playing on my new phone with various free apps, especially making kaleidoscope images. I have been interested in kaleidoscopic repeat patterns for a long time (since i had a kaleidoscope when young and bought books on them over 10 years ago) but making these patterns has always been so tedious, using tracing paper etc ..... but i still find these patterns beatiful and the ones below were made in minutes ..... but can they be classed as 'art', or 'creative'.

For my entry into the brochures for NYOS and RAW, I submitted an image from 2013, printed onto perspex, with statement :
Body and Soul, the human condition of growth, mortality and spirituality are all part of life's journey How can these concepts including decay, fragility, strength and brokenness be explored in meaningful ways, that depict a beauty through abstraction, landscape and pattern?
Just need to explore this technology debate going on within me quite a bit more and how do i express it in my work.
