the chaos of stopping being a caterpillar

A few weeks ago, I was researching what happens to a caterpillar inside a chrysalis. It is only with latest technology that it has been realised that a caterpillar, in order to become a butterfly has to lose its identity completely; even some of the useful butterfly parts that had started growing. Everything turns to a mushy soup where nothing is defined .... a form of death to what has been to what is to become... before new cells can grow and regroup. I feel a bit like that at the moment over my art.... needing to let go of most of that which i felt i knew something about, to allow the possibility of something else taking its place. There are certainly lots of cell ideas swimming around in the creative soup .... but non are particular recognisable as anything much just yet.

I'm also reading a sci-fi novel, 'The long earth',which ties in really well (although didn't know it would) with research i've recently done into the universe and quantum physics. It talks of multiple parallel worlds, stacked up next to each other and certain people can just step from one world to another. I feel as if i'm also doing a bit of this; exploring and trying on in my mind different ideas/styles to see where (artwise) I belong at this time, just what am I identifying with? .... ok as long as i don't keep 'stepping', looking for the perfect place that doesn't exist.
Sometime soon, i'm going to have to collect my artist research together in a blog, as i don't want to lose/forget about steps on my journey.
Emergent themes seem to be ... in no particular order....
biological forms;patterns;quantum physics; string theory;light; sound; vibration;sound/light installations;place of technology in my work, moving imagery; landscapes, real and imaginary, macro and micro;the whole area of letting the art materials do the thinking; scale of work; art/illustration/design; beauty, awe and wonder; art and science.I've got lots of scribbled notes and references in a small notebook .... think i should start to unpack, precis some of this thinking. Perhaps some will be jettisoned on the way (hope so, lol)
